In a milestone event marking its 8th anniversary, The Alternative Youth Radio has commenced the construction of its professional School of Journalism and vocational facility in Zorzor, Lofa County.

The official groundbreaking ceremony, held under the auspices of USAID Mission Director to Liberia, Mr. Jim Wright, alongside local authorities of Zorzor, heralded a new chapter for the community.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager and CEO of the station highlighted the project’s significant financial commitment, amounting to over two hundred thousand United States dollars as estimated value of the project.

“We have already mobilized 431 pieces of mixed steel rods, four dump truck loads of sand, five dump truck loads of crushed rocks, and over five thousand concrete bricks to kickstart the construction,” he stated.

The school project, anticipated to span up to two years, aims to provide specialized training in journalism and vocational skills, enhancing educational opportunities within the region.

However, the anniversary celebration saw a robust turnout, with esteemed guests including local authorities of Lofa County, National and International partners, former and current government officials, as well as leaders from the Muslim and Christian communities.

This initiative marks a significant investment in education and skills development, promising to empower youth and enrich the community of Zorzor, Lofa County, for years to come.
