Monrovia – Ambassador Juli Endee, a stalwart figure in Liberian arts and culture, has concluded her distinguished 30-year tenure as the nation’s Cultural Ambassador. President Joseph N. Boakai has appointed Mr. Kekura M. Kamara, popularly known as Malawala Balawala, as the new Arts & Culture Ambassador.

Amb. Endee was appointed Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador in 1994, a pivotal period during the Liberian Civil War. Over the decades, she has become a symbol of cultural continuity and resilience for Liberian youth aged 18-35, who have grown up with her as the country’s sole Cultural Ambassador. Her tenure, spanning from 1994 to 2024, makes her the longest-serving Cultural Ambassador in Liberian history.

In a statement, President Boakai expressed gratitude for Amb. Endee’s unwavering dedication to promoting Liberian culture both locally and internationally. Under her stewardship, the role of Cultural Ambassador evolved significantly, with Amb. Endee championing various cultural initiatives and contributing to the preservation and promotion of Liberia’s rich heritage.

The appointment of Mr. Kekura M. Kamara, also known as Malawala Balawala, marks a new chapter for the Arts & Culture sector. Kamara, a prominent figure in Liberian arts, is expected to bring fresh perspectives and energy to the role, continuing the legacy of cultural advocacy established by Amb. Endee.

As the transition takes place, the Liberian government and cultural communities are poised to support Mr. Kamara in his new role, ensuring the ongoing celebration and evolution of Liberia’s cultural identity.
