Cotton Tree, Margibi County — In a ceremony held at the Cotton Tree Town Hall, citizens of District #2 Margibi County presented a certificate of appreciation to the Association of Firestone Residents in the Americas (AFIRA) for its significant contributions to the district’s growth and development.

AFIRA, an American-based organization founded by Liberians residing in the U.S., has been instrumental in supporting the livelihoods of Liberians and contributing to their country’s progress. The organization has been recognized for its recent efforts in District #2, including the construction of a library at the Cotton Tree Public School and plans to upgrade the junior high school to a modern senior high school. The proposed annex will aim to enhance the learning environment for students.

Additionally, AFIRA has pledged to transform the Dolo Town Health Centre into a comprehensive health facility to improve access to medical care for residents. This initiative reflects AFIRA’s commitment to addressing critical needs in the district and ensuring better health services for the community.

During the event, Mr. Samuel S.S. Kieh, President of AFIRA, highlighted the organization’s recent resolutions made during its July 14, 2024, convention in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. These resolutions include the expansion of the Cotton Tree Public School and the upgrade of the Dolo Town Comprehensive Health Centre.

The ceremony also recognized District #2 Representative Hon. Ivar K. Jones for his unwavering support and advocacy for the district. Citizens commended Representative Jones for his leadership and dedication, emphasizing that his efforts have been a positive force for the district’s development.

The event, attended by delegates from the U.S., local county officials, community members, religious leaders, students, and humanitarian workers, was well-received. Attendees expressed their gratitude for AFIRA’s initiatives and called for continued collaboration to enhance the well-being of Margibi County.

Lawmakers urged citizens to join forces with AFIRA and contribute to ongoing efforts for the district’s advancement, reinforcing the community’s commitment to a better and more prosperous Margibi County.
