HARBEL, Margibi County — Community members and local authorities continue to monitor the situation as search efforts are being coordinated, though hopes are dwindling due to the challenging conditions of a report of Nine people, including a local journalist, who had reportedly gone missing after a tragic incident on Friday, August 23, 2024, near the Firestone Hydro community.

Nathan Harris, a journalist for Farmington FM, was struggling in the Farmington River when eight others attempted to rescue him, but all are now feared missing according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m., prompting Amadu Bah, a resident of the community, to go live on Facebook with an urgent SOS call for assistance. Bah described the river’s tide as extremely high, worsened by heavy rainfall in the area.

Nathan Harris, a resident of the Firestone Hydro community, is well-known for his work at Farmington FM, a radio station established by Margibi’s second electoral district representative, Ivar Jones.

The circumstances leading to Harris being caught in the river’s strong current remain unclear, leaving residents concerned for their safety. The location where the group reportedly went missing is near the hydroelectric facility that supplies power to Firestone, an area notorious for dangerous tides during this time of year.
