Monrovia, Liberia – Egyptian Ambassador to Liberia Ahmed Abdelazeem Farghaly and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung convened at the Capitol Building on October 16, 2024, to reaffirm the enduring bilateral relations between Egypt and Liberia, which have thrived for over 70 years.

During the meeting, Ambassador Farghaly emphasized Egypt’s commitment to human capacity development in Liberia, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, communications, solar energy, administration, and governance. He highlighted recent initiatives, including agricultural training programs and support for Liberia’s military and law enforcement sectors. Notably, one Liberian intelligence officer is currently en route to Egypt for advanced counter-intelligence training.

A significant topic of discussion was the upcoming signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in fisheries and maritime affairs, scheduled for November 25, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance economic cooperation between the two nations.

Vice President Koung expressed gratitude for Egypt’s long-standing partnership, underscoring the importance of security and agriculture in Liberia’s development strategy. He stressed the need for collaboration in city planning and infrastructure to address pressing housing challenges.

The Ambassador extended an invitation for Vice President Koung to visit Egypt to explore further cooperation opportunities. He also announced plans for a direct Egypt Air flight from Cairo to Monrovia, which would enhance connectivity between the two nations.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to fostering deeper ties and increasing business-to-business cooperation, envisioning significant trade opportunities that could benefit both countries. The meeting concluded with a shared vision for continued collaboration, reinforcing Liberia’s role as a model of democracy in Africa.
