The Liberia Medical Mission (LMM) has launched a free medical treatment program, aimed at providing essential healthcare services to hundreds of underprivileged Liberians. The initiative was officially announced at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing, reinforcing LMM’s commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility in underserved communities across the nation.

Speaking at the event, Joseph Sackor, Chairman of the Liberia Medical Mission, emphasized the organization’s dedication to supporting Liberia’s healthcare system. He stated, “We are a non-for-profit organization, we are self-funded. We love our country, and that is why we want to give back.”

The medical mission, which commenced on February 21, 2025, has assembled a team of 26 medical professionals from the United States, Canada, Europe, and other regions. These healthcare practitioners are offering free medical services, including: Cataract surgeries, Mental health awareness and training and General medical checkups

The initiative is expected to benefit five counties, namely Gbarpolu, Cape Mount, Bomi, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado.

As part of its commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector, LMM has imported over $500,000 worth of medical supplies and equipment to support local healthcare facilities. This contribution underscores the organization’s comprehensive approach to healthcare improvement, tackling both immediate medical needs and infrastructural challenges.

Chairman Sackor highlighted LMM’s new partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under its Diaspora Engagement Project. This program encourages professionals in the diaspora to return and contribute their expertise to their home countries.

“This collaboration will inspire more professionals abroad to return and help in Liberia’s development,” Sackor stated.

Despite challenges such as difficult road networks limiting access to remote communities, LMM remains committed to ensuring healthcare services reach even the most vulnerable populations. The organization is also working with UNHCR and other agencies to distribute medical supplies to hard-to-reach areas.

The Liberia Medical Mission’s continuous efforts highlight a strong dedication to humanitarian service, significantly improving healthcare access for thousands of Liberians. Through medical outreach, training, and partnerships, LMM continues to play a vital role in strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system.
