Margibi County Farmers Appeal for Support to Boost Agriculture

Margibi County, Liberia – March 25, 2025 – Farmers in Electoral District #4, Margibi County, are calling for urgent assistance to enhance agricultural production and alleviate the burden of manual labor.

The appeal comes from the God Favor Agriculture Group, a cooperative engaged in vegetable farming since 2016. The group, which cultivates bitter ball, peppers, and cucumbers on a 25-acre farmland, has never received external support and continues to operate under challenging conditions.

Speaking to journalists at the farm site, Mr. Samuel M. Jimmy, head of the group, lamented the struggles they face due to a lack of modern farming equipment, fertilizers, and financial aid.

“We started farming in 2016, and up to now, we have not received any support from the government or any organization. Everything we do comes from our own sweat, but we need help. The lack of manpower and farming materials makes our work very difficult,” Mr. Jimmy said.

He stressed that outdated farming methods and limited resources have slowed their productivity and placed a heavy strain on the farmers.

The group is now appealing to the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural NGOs, and well-meaning Liberians to provide assistance in the form of mechanized farming tools, seeds, fertilizers, and financial support.

Agriculture is a key priority under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s administration, which aims to boost local food production and reduce Liberia’s dependence on imported goods. The farmers believe their plea aligns with the government’s commitment to modernizing the sector and empowering local producers.

For now, God Favor Agriculture Group continues to work under difficult conditions, but they remain hopeful that their appeal will be heard and that much-needed support will arrive to help improve their productivity and livelihoods.
