Government Rejects Allegations of Plot to Remove House Speaker Koffa

Capitol Hill, Monrovia— The Unity Party-led Government, under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has firmly rejected claims made by Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) leader George Weah regarding a purported plot to remove House Speaker Honorable J. Fonati Koffa.

Describing the accusations as “preposterous, disgraceful, and unfounded,” Acting Information Minister Daniel Sando criticized Weah for suggesting that the government is financing such a scheme. Sando asserted that the alleged plot appears to stem from internal power struggles within the CDC, rather than any action by the Boakai administration.

“Mr. Weah is known for fighting proxy battles against prominent leaders within the CDC to maintain his dominance,” Minister Sando said, adding that Koffa’s confident leadership style may be perceived as a threat to Weah’s political ambitions. He suggested that the rise of other leaders within the CDC could diminish Weah’s influence.

“To insinuate that the Government is using public funds to influence actions on Capitol Hill is indicative of a depraved mentality,” Sando stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to serving the Liberian people through its ARREST Agenda.

The government reiterated its focus on governance and development, vowing not to be distracted by what it termed Weah’s “continuous mudslinging and incendiary comments.” said Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando.
